Coroner rules Michael Jackson death a homicide

The Los Angeles County coroner says Michael Jackson's death was a homicide primarily caused by two drugs.

In a statement released Friday, the coroner said the cause of death was acute intoxication from the anesthetic propofol. Other sedatives contributed to the death, most notably lorazepam (LOR-az-eh-pam).

The coroner did not release Jackson's full autopsy report, citing an ongoing security hold at the request of Los Angeles authorities.

Dr. Conrad Murray, the pop star's personal physician, told police he gave Jackson propofol the morning of June 25 after a series of sedatives failed to help Jackson sleep. Murray is the target of what police term a manslaughter investigation.

The 50-year-old Jackson died June 25 in Los Angeles.

Madonna booed in Bucharest for defending Gypsies

BUCHAREST, Romania - At first, fans politely applauded the Roma performers sharing a stage with Madonna. Then the pop star condemned widespread discrimination against Roma, or Gypsies — and the cheers gave way to jeers.

The sharp mood change that swept the crowd of 60,000, who had packed a park for Wednesday night's concert, underscores how prejudice against Gypsies remains deeply entrenched across Eastern Europe.

Despite long-standing efforts to stamp out rampant bias, human rights advocates say Roma probably suffer more humiliation and endure more discrimination than any other people group on the continent.

Sometimes, it can be deadly: In neighboring Hungary, six Roma have been killed and several wounded in a recent series of apparently racially motivated attacks targeting small countryside villages predominantly settled by Gypsies.

"There is generally widespread resentment against Gypsies in Eastern Europe. They have historically been the underdog," Radu Motoc, an official with the Soros Foundation Romania, said Thursday.

Roma, or Gypsies, are a nomadic ethnic group believed to have their roots in the Indian subcontinent. They live mostly in southern and eastern Europe, but hundreds of thousands have migrated west over the past few decades in search of jobs and better living conditions.

Romania has the largest number of Roma in the region. Some say the population could be as high as 2 million, although official data put it at 500,000.

Until the 19th century, Romanian Gypsies were slaves, and they've gotten a mixed response ever since: While discrimination is widespread, many East Europeans are enthusiastic about Gypsy music and dance, which they embrace as part of the region's cultural heritage.

That explains why the Roma musicians and a dancer who had briefly joined Madonna onstage got enthusiastic applause. And it also may explain why some in the crowd turned on Madonna when she paused during the two-hour show — a stop on her worldwide "Sticky and Sweet" tour — to touch on their plight.

"It has been brought to my attention ... that there is a lot of discrimination against Romanies and Gypsies in general in Eastern Europe," she said. "It made me feel very sad."

Thousands booed and jeered her.

A few cheered when she added: "We don't believe in discrimination ... we believe in freedom and equal rights for everyone." But she got more boos when she mentioned discrimination against homosexuals and others.

"I jeered her because it seemed false what she was telling us. What business does she have telling us these things?" said Ionut Dinu, 23.

Madonna did not react and carried on with her concert, held near the hulking palace of the late communist dictator Nicolae Ceausescu.

Her publicist, Lizz Rosenberg, said Madonna and other had told her there were cheers as well as jeers.

"Madonna has been touring with a phenomenal troupe of Roma musicians who made her aware of the discrimination toward them in several countries so she felt compelled to make a brief statement," Rosenberg said in an e-mail. "She will not be issuing a further statement."

One Roma musician said the attitude toward Gypsies is contradictory.

"Romanians watch Gypsy soap operas, they like Gypsy music and go to Gypsy concerts," said Damian Draghici, a Grammy Award-winner who has performed with James Brown and Joe Cocker.

"But there has been a wave of aggression against Roma people in Italy, Hungary and Romania, which shows me something is not OK," he told the AP in an interview. "The politicians have to do something about it. People have to be educated not to be prejudiced. All people are equal, and that is the message politicians must give."

Nearly one in two of Europe's estimated 12 million Roma claimed to have suffered an act of discrimination over the past 12 months, according to a recent report by the Vienna-based EU Fundamental Rights Agency. The group says Roma face "overt discrimination" in housing, health care and education.

Many do not have official identification, which means they cannot get social benefits, are undereducated and struggle to find decent jobs.

Roma children are more likely to drop out of school than their peers from other ethnic groups. Many Romanians label Gypsies as thieves, and many are outraged by those who beg or commit petty crimes in Western Europe, believing they spoil Romania's image abroad.

In May 2007, Romanian President Traian Basescu was heard to call a Romanian journalist a "stinky Gypsy" during a conversation with his wife. Romania's anti-discrimination board criticized Basescu, who later apologized.

Human rights activists say the attacks in Hungary, which began in July 2008, may be tied to that country's economic crisis and the rising popularity of far-right vigilantes angered by a rash of petty thefts and other so-called "Gypsy crime." Last week, police arrested four suspects in a nightclub in the eastern city of Debrecen.

Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia also have been criticized for widespread bias against Roma.

Madonna's outrage touched a nerve in Romania, but it seems doubtful it will change anything, said the Soros Foundation's Motoc.

"Madonna is a pop star. She is not an expert on interethnic relations," he said.

Judge approves Michael Vick's $20M bankruptcy plan

A judge on Thursday approved Michael Vick's plan to repay creditors $20 million and emerge from bankruptcy, and the quarterback hustled out of court to prepare for his return to an NFL field later in the night with the Philadelphia Eagles.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Frank J. Santoro said while Vick is "at the pinnacle of his profession," he has proven unable to manage his finances in the past and ordered him to retain a financial planner as a condition of approval. The reorganization was overwhelmingly approved in a ballot of creditors and by their representatives in court.

Vick, 29, left the court soon after with his fiancee, Kijafa Frink, to catch a flight back to Philadelphia and make his debut with the Eagles in a preseason game. He was released from federal custody July 20 after serving 18 months of a 23-month sentence for his role in running a dogfighting ring.

"I'm happy it's over. I can move on with my life," said Vick, who was beaming as he left the courthouse. "I think my lawyers did a great job. I commend the judge. I commend the creditors' committee, everybody. We finally got it all together. I'm just happy we can move forward."

The plan approved by Santoro was supported by all but one creditor, which is owed $13,000. It hinges on Vick liquidating an estimated $9 million in assets, including houses, boats and high-end sport utility vehicles and future NFL earnings. He would not have to pay creditors during the first year with the Eagles. If successful, creditors would be paid in six years.

Vick was briefly questioned by one of his attorneys to establish his employment.

"What do you for a living?" Paul Campsen asked Vick.

"Quarterback," he replied in a hushed voice.

Most of the hearing was devoted to a thicket of financial details, a parade of lawyers to the bar, and detailed estimates on Vick's future earnings. As an Atlanta Falcon, Vick was once the highest paid player in the NFL.

"Do you think the plan is feasible?" the judge asked Ira M. Spiegel, a financial adviser who had examined the reorganization plan and will advise Vick in the future.

"Yes, I do," he replied.

"Would it be pretty safe bet you'd be putting Mr. Vick on a budget?" the judge asked.

"Yes," Spiegel replied.

After paying creditors and investing his earnings, Vick would have annual living expenses of $300,000, Spiegel said.

Future payments would depend on Vick's salary, with creditors getting payments based on how much Vick earns. The Eagles have a $5.2 million option for next year, not including incentives.

Vick estimated his football earnings over the next few years as $5 million annually, with the potential of earning $8 million in 2010 with incentives.

While Santoro questioned Vick's lawyers on what would happen if he could not repay his creditors and had to default, a lawyer for one of the creditors shrugged off the prospect.

"We know where we can find him," Ross Reeves said. "We think there's actually a considerable opportunity for everyone to be paid in full."

Creditors ranging from banks holding mortgages on Vick houses to his former team, the Atlanta Falcons, endorsed Vick's plan to repay them. He also owes more than $600,000 in federal taxes.

A lawyer representing one group of creditors on Wednesday called Vick's signing by the Eagles "a huge development in the case."

Vick is eligible to play the final two preseason games, but not in the regular season. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said he would consider Vick for full reinstatement by no later than Week 6, in mid-October.

Besides his creditors, Vick ultimately will face legal bills approaching $2 million for his bankruptcy team.

Latest in Stimulus: Cash for Refrigerators

A $300 million cash-for-clunkers-type federal program to boost sales of energy-efficient home appliances provides a glimmer of hope for beleaguered makers of washing machines and dishwashers, but it's probably not enough to lift companies such as Whirlpool (NYSE:WHR - News) and Electrolux out of the worst down cycle in the sector's history.

Beginning late this fall, the program authorizes rebates of $50 to $200 for purchases of high-efficiency household appliances. The money is part of the broader economic stimulus bill passed earlier this year. Program details will vary by state, and the Energy Dept. has set a deadline of Oct. 15 for states to file formal applications. The Energy Dept. expects the bulk of the $300 million to be awarded by the end of November. (Unlike the clunkers auto program, consumers won't have to trade in their old appliances.)

"These rebates will help families make the transition to more efficient appliances, making purchases that will directly stimulate the economy," Energy Secretary Steven Chu said in a statement announcing the plan. Only appliances covered by the Energy Star seal will qualify. In 2008, about 55% of newly produced major household appliances met those standards, which are set by the Energy Dept. and Environmental Protection Agency.

The money can't come soon enough for the home appliance industry, which is mired in an unprecedented sales slump that began when the housing market cooled in 2006. Since then that slump has worsened considerably. Shipments of washers, dryers, refrigerators, and ovens dropped 10% in 2008 and are down 15% through July, according to the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers. "It's brutal," says Raymond James (NYSE:RJF - News) analyst Sam Darkatsh.

a marketing push around rebates

The leading appliance makers have felt the pinch. Whirlpool of Benton Harbor, Mich., which controls about 40% of the U.S. market, has seen its sales drop 20% through the first two quarters of this year. North American shipments for its Stockholm-based rival Electrolux, meanwhile, have dropped for a dozen consecutive quarters. Both companies have laid off hundreds of workers, and General Electric (NYSE:GE - News) mulled shutting down an entire refrigerator plant earlier this year until deciding to keep it open with a reduced workforce.

Not surprisingly, appliance makers cheered the news. Electrolux spokesman Tony Evans calls the federal program a "great opportunity to encourage consumers to replace their old appliances." Lately, cash-strapped consumers have chosen to repair, rather than replace, hobbled dishwashers and other water-intensive appliances, according to industry analysts. Electrolux says it is readying "aggressive" marketing programs that will run parallel with the rebates, and it's reasonable to expect appliance makers and retailers will devise additional discounts to amplify the rebates' appeal. "We will be ready to go when the new incentive programs hit the market," Evans said.

Unlike the popular, $3 billion cash-for-clunkers vehicle program, which ends on Aug. 24, there's no guarantee that hard-hit consumers are prepared to plump for new washers, stoves, and fridges. The federal outlay will piggyback on rebate programs for energy-saving appliances that have existed for years in more than 25 states, but which have largely failed to spur demand. Home improvement retailers like Home Depot (NYSE:HD - News) and Lowe's (NYSE:LOW - News) have also offered deep discounts on big-ticket appliances lately, with little impact.

"The cash-for-clunkers (program) had a discernible value proposition for the consumer, because he knows how much his (clunker) is worth," says Darkatsh, the Raymond James analyst. "With appliances, there is no trade-in. You can walk into Home Depot and get a great deal on a home appliance any time you want one. Why would it drum up sales now?" Laura Champine, an analyst with Cowen & Co. (NasdaqGS:COWN - News), agrees. "I'm not sure if it will be as powerful as cash for clunkers because there is something compelling about that $4,500 discount," she says. "Also, a new car is more fun than a new dishwasher. So I'm not sure if it will be as much of a driver, but any driver is welcome right now."

Stock Market Overreaction

Analysts also believe that the stock market's reaction to the program is overblown. Whirlpool's shares rose 6% on Aug. 20 when news of the program circulated, and climbed another 5% the following session. "That's silly," says Darkatsh. He estimates that in a best-case scenario the rebates will equate to about $240 million in incremental sales for Whirlpool. But that's unlikely, as it assumes that every American buying under the voucher program would not have done so otherwise. "The vast majority would have bought them anyway," as purchases of appliances such as fridges and washing machines are far less discretionary than, say, cars or big-screen televisions, Darkatsh says.

The recession's ability to blunt the program's impact was underscored by a call to the California Energy Commission to discuss its approach to the rebate program. The entire state office is on unpaid furlough each Friday in August; no one picked up the telephone.

Hannah Montana Cherries

Hannah Montana Cherries are out and we think it’s unfortunate. Why, you ask? Think about it for a minute. or if that’s too hard, search for things like Miley Cyrus pole dance or Miley Cyrus bikini pics. Now, does Miley, who is also the famed Hannah Montana, really remind you of cherries?

We didn’t think so. In fact, we think it’s just a little presumptous of the Disney company to market a product like Hannah Montana Cherries when there’s a 95% chance that Hannah’s cherry has fallen off the bush long ago. And even if it hasn’t, what about all the pedo bears who are now in their glory at the company’s short sightedness? Either way, we think Hannah Montana Cherries are just a really bad idea, unfortunate even.

Instead of Hannah Montana Cherries, why didn’t the company slap Hannah Montana stickers on some bananas and they would have had something totally cool that rhymed - oh wait, not such a good idea, nevermind.

At any rate, wherever Disney Fresh groceries are sold, have a look for those Hannah Montana Cherries next time you’re there… perv.
OR, is this just another elaborate joke? Photoshopped or not, it is something that could be overlooked by a company like Disney, or done on purpose as a marketing ploy.

US Stk Futures Rise After July Jobs Report; DJIA Up 62 To 9291

unemployment numbers, stock futures, july jobs report, economic calendar, unemployment report

By Donna Kardos Yesalavich
Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--U.S. stock futures jumped Friday morning after the Labor Department announced the unemployment rate surprisingly fell last month as U.S. job losses tapered off.

Prior to the report, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures were down 4 points, Nasdaq Composite futures were up 2 points and S&P 500 futures were down 0.1 point. Following the report, Dow futures soared 62 points to 9291, while Nasdaq futures rose 16 points to 1617 and the S&P 500 futures climbed 8 points to 1003.

Thursday, U.S. stocks fell on worries about the July jobs report. Following a big rally over the past month, investors were taking profits with fears the jobs report Friday could be worse than expected and sent stocks lower. However, the report Friday delivered a positive surprise.

In the report, the Labor Department said nonfarm payrolls declined 247,000 in July, the smallest drop since last August and below the 275,000 decline economists in a Dow Jones Newswires survey had expected.

Meanwhile, the unemployment rate, calculated using a survey of households as opposed to companies, slid 0.1 percentage point to 9.4%. The unemployment rate was under 6% less than one year ago. When marginally attached and involuntary part-time workers are included, the rate of unemployed or underemployed workers was 16.3% last month, down slightly from June.

The data suggest a turning point is at hand after job cuts earlier in the year that totaled as much as 700,000. The economy has lost 6.7 million jobs since the recession started in December 2007.

Among the companies whose shares are expected to actively trade in Friday's session are American International Group Inc. (AIG), Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (RBS) and Hansen Natural Corp. (HANS).

AIG staunched the flow of investment losses to turn its first profit in six quarters, but its core insurance operations are still struggling to rebuild. Shares rose 18% to $26.70 premarket.

Royal Bank of Scotland, the 70% state-owned U.K. bank, Friday dampened hopes that banks have turned a corner in the financial crisis, saying its earnings may not recover much until 2011 and that loan losses will remain high. Shares fell 14% to $15.74 premarket.

Hansen Natural's second-quarter profit grew 14% as the all-natural soda and juice maker reported higher sales led by its Monster Energy drink and improved margins. Shares rose 12% to $34.26 premarket.

LifePoint Hospitals Inc. (LPNT) second-quarter earnings unexpectedly fell as admissions continued to drop. Meanwhile, the board of the rural-hospital operator authorized a $100 million stock-buyback effort over the next 18 months. Shares fell 7.6% to $25.90 premarket.

Fannie Mae (FNM) posted a sharply wider second-quarter loss on $18.8 billion of credit-related impacts as delinquencies continued to surge and the company admitted it is reliant on the government's help to stay in business. The mortgage financier requested another $10.7 billion of aid as part of the $200 billion package extended to Fannie. It has received $34.2 billion so far. Shares fell 13% to 69 cents premarket.

Chiquita Brands International Inc.'s (CQB) second-quarter earnings climbed 46% as the food company's cost-cutting efforts offset a small drop in revenue. Shares rose 17% to $15 premarket as results easily topped Wall Street estimates. The fruits-and-vegetables distributor expects to report "significantly improved" results for 2009 compared with 2008.

Leap Wireless International Inc. (LEAP) second-quarter loss widened on a credit line repayment and expenses associated with the issuance of notes, which mitigated higher revenue and improved operating profit. Leap shares slumped 21% to $17.80 premarket.

PMI Group Inc.'s (PMI) second-quarter loss narrowed on lower claims and loss-adjustment expenses despite continued woes at its U.S. mortgage-insurance business. However, shares fell 26% to $2.59 premarket as the results widely missed analysts' views.

Shoe maker Crocs Inc. (CROX) shares soared 33% to $5.68 premarket after the company reported a narrower second-quarter loss, excluding items, than the Street was expecting. It also reported higher revenue than analysts projected and forecast better-than-anticipated results for the third quarter.

Media giant CBS Corp. (CBS) reported earnings roughly in line with low Street expectations. In a show of confidence for a second-half turnaround, CBS backed its full-year earnings guidance, which many analysts thought would be lowered. Shares rose 9.1% to $9.32 premarket.

Beazer Homes USA Inc.'s (BZH) fiscal third-quarter loss narrowed sharply as the home builder reported reduced write-downs and a debt-extinguishment gain. Beazer is seeing increased demand, with its backlog jumping nearly 50% during the quarter. Shares climbed 5.5% to $3.49 premarket.

Nvidia Corp. (NVDA) shares gained 6% to $13.90 premarket as the graphics-chip maker's results topped fiscal second-quarter estimates and the company narrowed its loss from the year-earlier period. Both revenue and earnings excluding items topped Wall Street views, another sign that while chip sales remain depressed, the market may be recovering.

   Watch List

CSC's (CSC) fiscal first-quarter profit climbed 5.6% as the information-technology company posted higher margins despite lower revenue and recorded a tax benefit. The company raised its per-share earnings target on the reduction of its tax rate and affirmed its revenue outlook.

VeriSign Inc. (VRSN) reversed a year-earlier loss in the second quarter caused by big restructuring charges, while operating results were much stronger as the Internet-registry company repositions itself. Earnings fell just short of analysts' expectations.

Husband says mother in NY crash wasn't a drinker

The husband of a suburban New York mother who caused a car crash that killed her and seven others said Thursday she didn't have a drinking problem and suggested diabetes and other health problems were to blame.

"She was not a drinker. She was not an alcoholic," Daniel Schuler said at a tearful news conference with his sister and lawyer. "Something medically had to have happened."

Schuler's attorney, Dominic Barbara, said the 36-year-old Cablevision executive had diabetes, a suspicious bump on her leg and a mouth abscess that hadn't been treated for weeks before the deadly July 26 wreck.

"I think she had a stroke of some sort," Barbara said. "From the stroke came all the other issues."

Police say Schuler downed more than 10 vodkas and smoked marijuana before driving her minivan nearly two miles on the Taconic State Parkway and slamming head-on into a sport-utility vehicle. Her 2-year-old daughter and three nieces were killed with her, along with three men in the SUV. Schuler's 5-year-old son survived.

Her blood-alcohol level was more than twice the state's legal limit, and she had smoked pot as soon as 15 minutes before the crash, according to toxicology reports from the Westchester County medical examiner's office.

Daniel Schuler said that he never saw his wife drunk since he met her, and that the couple went through a normal routine on the Sunday before he last saw her at a campsite in upstate New York.

"She was fine," he said. "We had a cup of coffee in the morning, we packed the cars up like we always do and we headed out."

Daniel Schuler went fishing for the day, while Diane Schuler began a 140-mile trip home to Long Island with her kids and three nieces, ages 5 to 8. The fiery wreck happened about four hours after she left, and after motorists called 911 to report her erratic driving on several roads.

Barbara said a frequent baby sitter for the West Babylon couple never saw Schuler drink or smoke pot. Her sister-in-law also defended her.

"Family was the most important thing to her," said Joy Schuler, Daniel's sister. "There was no way she would ever jeopardize the children."

The family has not decided whether to seek another autopsy for Schuler and is awaiting more information from the county's autopsy report, Barbara said.

8-Dead In Wrong Way Taconic Crash Driver Diane Schuler Was Drunk

By Jorge Fitz-Gibbons, Shawn Cohen, Aman Ali and Richard Liebson • rliebson@lohud.com • August 4, 2009

BREAKING NEWS — Diane Schuler was "impaired by marijuana" and had a blood-alcohol level twice the legal limit when she drove head-on into traffic on the Taconic State Parkway, killing eight people and injuring two others, Westchester District Attorney Janet DiFiore said this afternoon.

The findings were part of an autopsy toxicology report being conducted on Schuler in the wake of the deadly July 26 crash.

Westchester's chief medical examiner, Dr. Millard Hyland, said this morning that his office ruled the case a homicide last week. He would not confirm the toxicology results or whether those were the basis of the homicide determination. Hyland referred questions to the Westchester District Attorney's Office, which would not comment today.

The findings were shared with relatives of crash victims. The dead included Schuler’s 2-year-old daughter and three young nieces.

State police Lt. Dominick L. Chiumento said he could neither confirm nor deny the reports.

Schuler was returning home to West Babylon from an upstate campground on July 26 when she drove a 2003 Ford Windstar minivan against traffic on the northbound Taconic State Parkway.

State police investigators said Schuler drove for 1.7 miles into on coming traffic before she collided head-one with a Chevrolet Trail Blazer driven by Guy Bastardi of Yonkers. Bastardi, his father, Michael, and family friend Daniel Longo were all killed.

Roseann Guzzo, daughter of Michael Bastardi and sister of Guy Bastardi, said the family got the news from media reports today and then heard from the district attorney's office. She said it answers why the crash happened but forces the family to relive last week's horror.

"This wasn't an act of God. This was her choice. She made the wrong choice," Guzzo said. "This isn't an accident, this is murder."

Also killed were Schuler, her 2-year-old daughter, Erin, and her three nieces, Emma Hance, 8, Alyson Hance, 7, and Kate Hance, 5. Schuler’s 5-year-old son, Bryan, was the only survivor, and is currently recovering at the Westchester Medical Center.

Mccain-o filibuster cash for cclunkers bill trouble for reid with dem,too

When Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-NV, tries to take up the House-passed "Cash for Clunkers" bill next week, he will hit a series of bipartisan road blocks.

Fox has learned that Sen. John McCain, R-AZ, will oppose any move to take up the House bill. Around here, we call that a filibuster.

McCain told Fox earlier today, "I not only wouldn't vote for the extra two billion, I was opposed to the initial billion. "

McCain, the 2008 GOP presidential nominee who ran as a deficit hawk, said, "Within a few weeks we will see that this process was abused by speculators and people who took advantage of what is basically a huge government subsidy of corporations that they already own. "I can't imagine that any taxpayer of America would have thought that the TARP, the financial recovery money, would be used now to subsidize the sale of automobiles in America."

This move by McCain has the potential to tie the Senate into procedural knots, just as Reid is planning to take up the nomination of Sonia Sotomayor to be the next justice on the Supreme Court. This debate, alone, is expected to consumer three days, as the Senate heads into the monthlong August recess after next Friday.

Fox had thought earlier today that Sen. Jim DeMint, R-SC, would block the clunkers bill, for sure, but a spokesman says DeMint is looking at options and will fight it if there's a shot at stopping it.

But it won't be that easy for Reid. Not only will he have to contend with McCain now, but he will also have to quell the concerns of some members of his own party.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-CA, back in January, introduced her own "Cash for Clunkers" bill, an alternative that required more fuel efficient trade-in's than would later be approved by Congress -- and was extended today by the House.

Feinstein was joined by Sens. Susan Collins, R-ME, and Chuck Schumer, D-NY.

After the President pushed for a clunkers bill earlier this year, though, House Democrats hastily crafted a bill that was much friendlier to the beleagured American auto industry, particularly those who sell trucks. And after today's vote in the House, the plan gets $2 billion more to continue.

Together with Collins, Feinstein released the following ominous statement last night, "We will not support any bill that does not meet these goals. We will insist than any extension of the program requires that the minimum fuel economy improvement for newly purchased vehicles be at least two miles per gallon higher than it is under the enacted Clunkers program. It is also important to include lower-income consumers who are disadvantaged under the current program. So, we would also include a voucher for the purchase of fuel efficient used vehicles."

Indeed, Feinstein and Collins relented under pressure to pass a clunkers bill earlier this year after receiving what Feinstein's spokesman calls "absolute assurances" from Reid that any extension would be based on the Feinstein-Collins-Schumer bill.

But that's not the end of Reid's woes. Now this in a Twitter posting from Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-MO, who was very wary of the government bailouts that passed earlier this year, though she supported them. McCaskill, an active tweeter, today said, "We simply cannot afford any more taxpayr $ to extend cash for clunkers. Idea was to prime the pump, not subsidize auto purchases forever."

McCaskill echoed McCain, who said, "It's really an incredible process that we've gone through where recovery money that is supposed to be used in order to keep people in their homes and help the economy recovery. We're now again bailing out the automobile corporations, two of which we own. It's remarkable."

Tiger Woods Rips a Huge Fart

Here's the video of that Tiger Woods fart at the Buick Open. That Woods is in fact human, human enough to fart just as everyone else does at times, is of course obvious. However, there's something more to this than just a little petomania.

Watch the reaction of both Tiger Woods and his caddy to that little eructation. Yes, that's right, just exactly the same as the reaction of four year old boys to just the same happenstance. Grins, giggles, almost a nudging of each other and you can almost see the little thought bubble appearing above both heads: he who smelt it dealt it perhaps?

There is indeed a larger lesson that we can take from this perhaps: no, not that Tiger Woods farts, that's obvious, yes, even sporting near billionaires have very much the same digestion and colon as do the rest of us.

No, rather, that reaction shows that both Tiger and his caddy are fully in touch with their inner child: isn't that what we're told we all must be in order to enjoy true psychological health.
