IMPORTANT UPDATE... Cash for Clunkers suspended Sorry!!
According to the Associated Press, the Department of Transportation has suspended the CARS, or Cash for Clunkers program indefinitely effective at midnight Thursday. According to the breaking news story, officials are concerned that the money will run out too quickly and that they will not be able to pay dealers participating in the program. Read the entire AP story here,
The government is sure to endure a backlash from consumers and dealers alike as millions of dollars in advertising has been spent on a program that was supposedly designed to last until November.
As President Obama clinks beer mugs with his Harvard buddy and his arresting officer, the American people are focused on other issues. With public support for the president waning significantly and a new Rasmussen poll reporting only a 48% approval rating, Obama needs to see some success in some of the programs he has run so rapidly through congress or risk losing support completely from the American public. The AIG bonuses bill created enormous scandal and outrage, the stimulus package has failed to bring about the jobs numbers promised months ago and thehealth care bill is facing trouble in both the senate and congress. The Cash for Clunkers meltdown couldn't have come at a worse time for the president.
Original post below.
Does your car qualify? How does the program work? Is it really a good deal for consumers? What kind of car can I buy? What happens to my old car?
The Cash for Clunkers program, now known as CARS (Car Allowance Rebate System), is leaving more questions than answers for many consumers, dealers and salvage yards.
According to CARS.gov:
* Your vehicle must be less than 25 years old on the trade-in date
* Only purchase or lease of new vehicles qualify
* Generally, trade-in vehicles must get 18 or less MPG (some very large pick-up trucks and cargo vans have different requirements)
* Trade-in vehicles must be registered and insured continuously for the full year preceding the trade-in
* You don't need a voucher, dealers will apply a credit at purchase
* Program runs through Nov 1, 2009 or when the funds are exhausted, whichever comes first.
* The program requires the scrapping of your eligible trade-in vehicle, and that the dealer disclose to you an estimate of the scrap value of your trade-in. The scrap value, however minimal, will be in addition to the rebate, and not in place of the rebate.
The website warns you must check back often for "updates" to the program. That seems good advice being that the qualifications have already changed once since last Friday.
Though the official kick-off of CARS was Monday, July 27th, many dealers began participating over the weekend. They came into their offices on Monday with a new set of rules.
Once the consumer is out the door with their new, more fuel efficient vehicle, the real work begins. The rule book for dealerships is about 150 pages long on the website and the longer, more detailed version from the Department of Transportation was approximately 400 pages. The rules outline the process for destroying the traded vehicle, applying for a voucher, and turning in the necessary accompanying paperwork such as proof of continuous insurance and a certificate proving the trade-in was destroyed.
Dealers, which already have enormous amounts of paperwork when selling a vehicle, must submit all documents rather quickly because the program is on a first-come, first-served basis. The latest reports are showing nearly $100 million in vouchers has already been requested this week with more than 19,000 "clunkers" traded in. (Bloomberg, 7-29-09) The $1.2 billion program will continue until money runs out or on November 1, 2009, whichever comes first.
Since there are only so many dealers participating in the program and only so much money to go around, it works out to be about 11 CARS deals on average per dealership. Some dealerships have already well exceeded that average number.
Some things to consider...
If I am a dealer that is turning in my paperwork today for a voucher to arrive in several weeks, how should I pay out commissions to the sales person? How do I pay the bills while I'm waiting for the vouchers to arrive? Dealerships typically make much less profit per vehicle than the voucher will be paying out, so there is a cashflow issue for most dealerships.
Also, what will happen with the "leftovers?" In other words, if the dealers are turning in deals at the end of the program, what happens to the deals that are a day too late? How will the government let dealers know when to cut off the program? There will inevitably be deals still on the table, with consumers on the road and old vehicles destroyed, that won't be funded by the vouchers.
If the money runs out, who will get paid first? Will GM and Chrysler dealerships be paid first since they are now owned by the government?
With the amount of paperwork being turned into a government that already has trouble getting the White House staff to properly pay its taxes, there are sure to be errors in reporting. Should there be any mistakes in reporting, the voucher will be denied. What happens then?
The dealer will need to call the consumer, who is already zipping around town in his fancy new car, whose old car has already been destroyed, and inform him that he owes the dealership an additional $4,500. How do you think that will go over?
At least one Minnesota dealer has already put a halt on the program and will not be submitting any more requests for vouchers for fear that the money will run out before they get paid in full by the government. They have already exceeded the average at each of their stores and said they were afraid they would have to "eat the 4,500 bucks per car" to keep customers happy and returning for additional business. Speaking under anonymity, one salesman said, "I'm still waiting for my $400 refund check from the IRS. How can we expect them to pay out $1.2 billion to car dealerships all over the country?"
The CARS program is being trumpeted as a "green" initiative with the intent of getting gas guzzling vehicles off the road in favor of more fuel efficient means of transportation. On the surface, this sounds appealing, but once we dig into the mechanics of the program it isn't difficult to see that it is fundamentally flawed.
First, the government is assuming people will drive the same amount of time or less in their new vehicles. Studies show that Americans are more likely to drive newer vehicles more than their older cars. (FoxNews, 2009) The emissions results are yet to be determined, but the result could very well be a wash.
Also, the program fails to address the fact that when you destroy the trade-ins, you are diminishing the parts available for recycling. The car must be drivable upon trade-in, however the dealer is responsible for pouring sodium metasilicate into the engine before transport to a salvage yard. Sodium metasilicate, also known as "liquid glass," produces a sludge-like substance in the engine, destroying it, and making the vehicle non-drivable. The salt, sand & water based liquid is said to be harmful if inhaled and can cause severe irritation to eyes, skin and the respiratory tract.
Following the destruction of the car's engine, the salvage yard is required to crush the vehicle, leaving much of the cars parts nothing more than scrap metal. Engines and engine parts are big business for salvage yards and count on those parts to stay in business.
From WHSV, an ABC affiliate that investigated local salvage yard owners:
"If this program keeps running, we're not going to have used parts to sell. It's going to hurt us, and it's going to hurt the average everyday person," says Angela Ingram, of B & A Auto Parts.
Again, the Obama administration hasrushed through a piece of legislation and burdened the people with unintended consequences.
Time will tell if the CARS program was a good deal for the consumer, a profitable program for the car dealerships and a fair deal for the taxpayer (who now owns a large portion of GM). If you are interested in finding a dealer near you, click here.

Researchers attack iPhone via SMS, iphone virus, bug, software
Although an attacker could exploit the hole to make calls, steal data, send text messages, and do basically anything that I can do with my iPhone, the researchers were kind and merely rendered it temporarily inoperable.
Here's what happened: While I was talking on the phone to Charlie Miller, his partner, Collin Mulliner, sent me a text message from his phone. One minute I'm talking to Miller and the next minute my phone is dead, and this time it's not AT&T's fault. After a few seconds it came back to life, but I was not able to make or receive calls until I rebooted.
The attack is enabled by a serious memory corruption bug in the way the iPhone handles SMS messages, said Miller, a senior security researcher at Independent Security Evaluators. There is no patch, despite the fact that Apple was notified of the problem about six weeks ago, he said.
The attack is similar to an SMS attack demonstration CNET News wrote about in April in which mobile security firm Trust Digital was able to send an SMS to a phone that opened up a Web browser and directed the phone to a malicious Web site where malware could be downloaded.
In the more recent research, Android-based phones were found to be similarly susceptible to an SMS attack, only an attacker could temporarily knock the phone off the cell network but not take control, according to Mulliner, who's getting his PhD at the Technical University of Berlin. Google patched the hole last week within a day or two of being notified of the problem, he said.
Meanwhile, a bug in the code written by HTC that controls the user interface on Windows Mobile devices could also be exploited via the SMS messages to make it so there are no buttons to push so the phone can't be used, said Miller.
For the attack to work, an attacker must send hundreds of SMS control messages, which are different from regular SMS messages, according to Miller. Only the initial SMS may be seen, he said.
The researchers will demonstrate the attack on an Android phone and an iPhone during their presentation on Thursday.
Previous iPhone attacks required an attacker to lure the iPhone user to visit a malicious Web site or open a malicious file, but this attack requires no effort on the part of the user and requires only that an attacker have the victim's phone number, Miller said.
Once inside a victim's phone, the attacker could then send an SMS to anyone in the victim's address book and spread the attack from phone to phone, he said.

Powerball numbers have no winning results
July 29th powerball numbers are 2 5 38 43 59. The powerball is 8. The powerplay is 2. This was the order of drawing results 38 2 43 5 59.
As there was no big winner in last night's powerball lottery the dollar amount is estimated to be 120 million for the August 1 drawing. The estimated cash value will be $59,000,000 cash value. An AP story published in today's Shreveport Times, also confirms that the last night's powerball results were not favorable for a big winner.
While the North Carolina Lottery website shows that the powerball dollar amount has gone up to an estimated 120 million for August 1st drawing it also reads the following in regard to the table that shows the numbers. "This table represents Wednesday, July 29, 2009 North Carolina winners only. If the Powerball jackpot is won outside the state of North Carolina, it will not reflect in this table and the jackpot will return to $20 million."
Having said this, we urge our readers that if they have to play, play responsibly. Odds are very low. Note that each ticket has an important information on the back side. If you or anyone you know has a gambling problem pleas call 1-877-718-5543.
Also remember, just buying a powerball ticket and having your numbers is not enough. Look on the back side of your lottery ticket and read the information there. You need to print your name and your address there. Sign it and keep it dry.

Giants acquire Freddy Sanchez for Tim Alderson
As several media outlets have reported, Giants doctors re-examined Sanchez's left knee today and reportedly found no major defects. It became more apparent the deal was getting done this afternoon after the game when reporter Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette told Sanchez not to board the plane he was going to take to Phoenix, where he lives.
Sanchez praised the Giants and their ballpark during the All-Star break and did again today after learning he was traded to San Francisco. "They're really a great team. They have a great pitching staff. They're a fun team to watch. They have fun out there."
Alderson was one of the Giants' best prospects, a first-round pick in the 2007 draft.
Given how good a prospect Pittsburgh is getting, the presumption is that the Pirates are sending the Giants some money to cover the $2 million or so left on Sanchez's contract this season. He has a vesting option for '10.
UPDATE: Dejan is reporting the Giants get no money in the deal. In a news conference at the ballpark, Sanchez said he might not play until Monday because of his inflamed knee, which was checked twice by Giants doctors.
Manager Bruce Bochy said Sanchez will hit second in the order.Read more: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/giants/detail?entry_id=44521#ixzz0Mi0KFdRI

Gongoozlers,Ferries Etiquette 101
Fourth of July weekend was a biggie for the Washington State Ferries. I was on the morning sailing from Sidney, BC to Anacortes on July 3, and the line of vehicles in Anacortes stretched halfway into town. Here on the island on the Sunday after the 4th, there was a three-hour wait for the Clinton to Mukilteo ferry. Our son opted to drive back to Seattle via Deception Pass, which took him 2.5 hours. If there hadn't been a huge traffic snarl/jam on I-5 between Marysville and Everett, he could have made it in two. Although "driving around" is not what most people want to do, it's a scenic way to get off the island.
But don't let the long lines keep you away — my friends who own businesses and shops on Whidbey welcome your staycation dollars. Here are a few travel tips for those who plan to venture out this summer. Some serious, some not so much. Bon voyage!
1. Don't even think of heading up to the islands on a Friday after work. There was nearly a four-hour wait in Mukilteo for the ferry to Whidbey on July 3. Even Thursday nights have become long on lines, so get up early and catch the first boat Saturday morning. Usually there's not much of a wait.
2. Make sure you eat while in the Mukilteo ferry line. It's mandatory to either have fish 'n chips or an ice cream cone at Ivar's before you board the boat. Who cares if you're headed to a big barbecue on the island only a few hours later? Islanders know that Ivar's calories don't count. And with the 12 new ferry holding lanes that were added at the Mukilteo terminal in May, you're that much closer to the food source.
3. Don't eat the food on the ferries. The popcorn is too salty, the beer/wine overpriced, the coffee lousy, and other than some fresh/healthy food alternatives like fruit and yogurt, it's pretty slim pickins. Besides, you just polished off a tankard of Ivar's Famous Clam Chowder with extra crackers.
4. Don't dress like you're going to a tropical island. When you board either the Cathlamet or the Kittitas from Mukilteo to Whidbey Island, you are not off on a Caribbean cruise. You're still in the Pacific Northwest, so chill on wearing overly resort attire. And nix those white pants! We don't wear that stuff on the rock, so if you wanna sort of blend in, go for the casual post-hippie/rural farmer/entrepreneur look. No fanny packs allowed.
5. Taking photos and/or videos is OK on the boat. We know you're not a local, and it makes us sort of smile to see that you just took a couple dozen shots of a passing seagull. But please, no loud cell phone conversations; we don't really want to hear about your weekend plans or how much your stock has tanked. Texting and Tweeting are fine.
6. When you arrive in Clinton on Whidbey Island, please note the speed limit signs. Again, even though you're on an island, it's really OK to drive more than 30 MPH all the way into Langley. We appreciate you soaking up our sights and scenery, but keep in mind that the driver behind you may be trying to get to the feed store before it closes.
8. No goofy questions. I was recently up on Vancouver Island and stopped in at the tourist info centre in Qualicum Beach. The friendly volunteer said that they get some real doozies — like the person who asked if the island had fresh water on one side and salt on the other.

Phillies Acquire Cliff Lee From Indians
Philadelphia, which leads the National League East and is the defending World Series champion, also acquired outfielder Ben Francisco in the deal. Cleveland acquired two right-handers, Carlos Carrasco and Jason Knapp; catcher Lou Marson; and shortstop Jason Donald.
Had the Phillies worked a deal with Toronto for Halladay, as had been widely speculated, they would have likely had to give up at least some of their most coveted prospects, pitchers J. A. Happ and Kyle Drabek and outfielders Dominic Brown and Michael Taylor.
In another trade, Seattle and Pittsburgh swapped shortstops, with the Mariners acquiring Jack Wilson along with pitcher Ian Snell while the Pirates got Ronny Cedeno along with minor league catcher Jeff Clement and three minor league pitchers.
Wilson, 31, becomes Seattle’s third starting shortstop this season.
“This was an opportunity for us to acquire a veteran shortstop, a former All-Star player, with leadership qualities and above average defensive skills,” Mariners General Manager Jack Zdurienick said in a statement. “As we move forward over the next few years it is nice to know that we have solidified the shortstop position.”
The Mariners also think highly of the 27-year-old Snell, who had a 0.96 earned run average in six starts with Class AAA Indianapolis, after starting the season 2-8 with a 5.36 E.R.A. in 15 starts for Pittsburgh.
Cedeno, 26, came to the Mariners in the off-season from the Chicago Cubs, but struggled after becoming the starting shortstop this month. Cedeno is hitless in his last 26 at-bats and is batting .167 in 59 games.
Clement was the third overall draft pick in 2005. He has shown impressive power but has been inconsistent defensively.More: www.BlasterMix.com

Cleveland Indians trade Cliff Lee, Ben Francisco to Philadelphia Phillies for four prospects
ANAHEIM,Calif -- Cliff Lee and Ben Francisco are headed to the Phillies for four prospects, if all the players involved pass their physicals.
The deal, according to one American League executive, could become official "within 10 to 24 hours."
Lee is expected to make his next start Friday for Philadelphia. The Indians will receive righthanded pitchers Carlos Carrasco, Jason Knapp, catcher Lou Marson and infielder Jason Donald.
Knapp, reportedly the key to the trade, is still on the disabled list. Donald just came off the disabled list following knee surgery.
The is the second year in a row the Indians have traded a Cy Young winner. CC Sabathia went in 2008 and Lee is headed out today.
Knapp, 6-5, 230, has been clocked throwing his fastball at 99 mph and is consistently clocked around 95 mph.
"This guy could be the key to the deal," said an MLB source. " He's got a great pitcher's body."
There is some thought that the Indians might not be done dealing, especially regarding Marson. The Indians have prospects Wyatt Toregas and Carlos Santana in the minors, so this might mean they would deal Marson, or possibly Victor Martinez.
Said one source, "The deal is about as official as an unofficial deal can be. Both sides are checking medicals."
Knapp, 18, is 2-7 with a 4.01 ERA at Class A Lakewood of the Sally League. He has 111 strikeouts and 39 walks in 85 1/3 innings. He's expected to come off the disabled list soon.
Donaldson, 24, just came off the disabled list following knee surgery. He's hitting .236 (49-for-2089) with one homer and 15 RBI. He hit .307 (57-for-362) with 19 doubles, four triples, 14 homers asnd 54 RBI at Class AA Reading last year. He also played well in the Arizona Fall League last year, making the all-prospect team.
Marson, 23, had 17 at-bats with the Phillies this year. He's hitting .294 (52-for-211) with one homer and 24 RBI at Leigh Valley.
Carrasco, the Phillies No.1 ranked pitching prospect for the last three years is 6-9 with a 5.18 ERA at Leigh Valley. He's made 20 starts, striking out 111 and walking 38 in 114 2/3 innings. Carrasco has not pitched well this year.
Last year Carrasco, 22, was 9-9 between Reading and Lehigh Valley with 155 strikeouts and 58 walks in 151 1/3 innings.

Madonna biceps photos, madonna, madonna bicepts, madonna bicep, madonnas biceps, madonna arm, musician, madonna picture, madonna pictures 2009
As you can see from the above photo there's something a little odd, more than passing strange, about Madonna's biceps. Indeed, there's something really rather strange about Madonna's entire musculature for a 50 year old woman. Fit is one thing, slim and elegant similarly, but for Madonna's biceps to rival those of a professional sportswoman is really rather over the top.
The Daily Mail in London has the full story on Madonna's biceps. In fact, their Madonna biceps photo is a great deal more disturbing than the one above.
The basic story is that Madonna has done quite a lot of heavy weights in the past which is what has gven her large biceps. She may be on lower weights now, but she's still keeping her body fat ratio low, so those muscles and veins are clearly defined in Madonna's biceps.
She's certainly healthy, but not all that many would argue that this is an attractive look.
According to Leslie Bonci, director of sports nutrition at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Oftentimes when your body fat is really, really, low, as Madonna’s is, you’re going to see veins pop. Her body fat is minimal, and she does a lot of strength training workouts that are going to build her muscles to look more visible.
New media watch dog web site, Gossip Cop, says that the recent picture taken of Madonna’s super skinny and toned biceps has been retouched.
Update: Madonna’s representative, however apparently told Gossip Cop, “Madonna’s arms in the most recent photos have absolutely been altered by Photoshop or some other means. Her arms do not look like that in real life.”

Cash For Clunkers Auto Eligibility List Changed
The Environmental Protection Agency says the changes resulted from a double-check of its fuel-efficiency ratings on more than 30,000 1984 and newer vehicles in advance of the official start of the clunkers program Monday.
About half the 100 suddenly did not qualify because their combined mileage rating was revised upward; others unexpectedly got in.
"As a result of the review, roughly an equal number of vehicles became eligible as those found to be not eligible," said the EPA in a statement. "Eligibility for about 100 vehicles was affected."
Car-shopping website Edmunds.com said Monday that it discovered the switcheroo because potential buyers were complaining on its discussion boards.
Some said it made them ineligible at the last minute for car deals they already had on deck.
"We had everything lined up. We had a couple car dealers that had verified our car qualified, and we were ready to purchase a new car this weekend," wrote one potential buyer, identified on the site as John1152. "But it will not happen now because at the last second the EPA updated the information at their web page for a 1993 Toyota Camry wagon ... from 18 mpg to 19 mpg."
Karl Brauer, editor in chief of Edmunds.com, said, "It's unfortunate that consumers who had been researching and planning to trade in their vehicle ... are now left in the dust."
To qualify for the $1 billion program aimed at spurring auto sales and driving gas guzzlers off the road, the clunker must have an EPA city-highway "combined" rating of 18 miles per gallon or lower.
Buyers then get a $3,500 incentive if the new car gets 4 to 9 mpg more or $4,500 for 10 mpg or more. The new car also must itself have a minimum 22 mpg combined rating. The program ends Nov. 1, or when the $1 billion runs out.
EPA gave no reason its ratings were inaccurate or why some went up. For the 2008 model year, EPA started revising mileage figures, typically downward, to better reflect real-world driving. For example, a Toyota Prius that had been rated 60 mpg in city driving fell 20% to 48 mpg.

Shana Martin and Stihl TimberSports Prove Just How Tough Woman Are
In sports news today, the Stihl Timbersports competitions might just provide us with a new kind of hero, super tough female competitors. Extreme sport is no mystery to female athletes, this is for sure, but in reading of the exploits of Shana Martin and her contemporaries today, it occurred to me that a new class of women athletes may be emerging, perhaps even tougher than their male counterparts. News out of one of these competitions, The Lumberjack World Championships, painted a whole new picture of women in sport for this writer.
In an article entitled Walking on Water, Penn State student Alyse Schroeder edged out Shana Martin in a race across water, atop logs connected by ropes, and then back again. Reminiscent of those log rolling contests we have seen, but much faster, the “boom runners” basically sprint across the perilous obstacles to the finish. Martin, a veteran of many extreme sports, began log rolling at age 7 at the Madison, Wisconsin YMCA. From her bio at her site, and news from her escapades, Shana just may be living proof that beauty, toughness and fitness can go hand in hand. As for her loss to Schroeder, Shana is also the favorite in the log rolling event upcoming.
Shana, a former gymnast and pole vaulter, is also a trainer, holds a black belt in Karate, and competes in triathlon events. As stated in her bio at Stihl/ESPN, her first love has always been lumberjack sports. The events in Madison take the tough little competitor back home to where it all began for her, and the events and competition have been her way of life obviously. Toughness however, is not always about physical prowess, which Shana learned early on, her mother having Huntington’s disease. Choreographer Merce Cunningham Dies at 90
Merce Cunningham, the avant-garde choreographer whose unorthodox approaches and discoveries throughout a six-decade career made him one of the most important artists of the 20th century, influencing filmmakers and directors as well as choreographers worldwide, died Sunday night, the Merce Cunningham Dance Foundation said. He was 90.
No cause of death was reported.
With his Merce Cunningham Dance Company, founded in New York in 1953, Mr. Cunningham collaborated with composer John Cage (with whom he also had a romantic partnership) and painters Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Andy Warhol and other major figures in the modern art world. He created a body of work that looks like none other -- plotless, spacious and often leisurely paced works, characterized by the clarity, calm and coolness of the dancing. He also developed an elegant and rigorous dance technique based on ballet's pulled-up stretchiness, the weightedness he absorbed from Martha Graham, with whom he danced before striking out on his own, and his own ways of twisting, folding and releasing the body.
But his achievement is not limited to style, subject matter, quantity of works (nearly 200) or even the extraordinary longevity of his world-renowned troupe in a field known for spotty funding and wavering public support. Mr. Cunningham also invented radical working methods that exploded the mold and produced new ways of moving.
Simply put, Mr. Cunningham expanded what is possible in dance.
From his earliest works to his last, Mr. Cunningham flouted convention, embracing the unknown and the unpredictable. For example, in "eyeSpace" (2006), the audience was loaned pre-loaded iPods and encouraged to shuffle the specially commissioned musical selections at will.
Even toward the end of his life, when he was physically frail, crippled by arthritis, and his cloud of white hair had thinned to a mist, Mr. Cunningham was a fierce modernist. His commitment to contemporary music led him in his last years to creative partnerships with the wildly popular British art-rock band Radiohead and the minimalist Icelandic band Sigur Ros, both of whom performed live at the premiere of "Split Sides" in 2003.
Where other choreographers looked to music and their own imagination for inspiration, Mr. Cunningham favored the creative strategies of a physicist, a Vegas high roller and a techno-whiz.
He split the atomic unity of music and dance. No longer were the steps dependent on a beat; in Mr. Cunningham's works, the dancing and the music were utterly independent of each other, existing side by side "in space and time," that is, performed in the same spot for a set number of minutes, but coming together essentially as strangers. He also introduced "chance operations," rolling dice to determine the sequence of dance sections. To make this work, he had to refine and extend his dance technique, coming up with ways to link movements that wouldn't ordinarily be possible side by side. The unnaturalness that resulted was a hallmark of his style, and only the most highly trained and capable dancers could make it look serene and effortless. Cunningham dancers were esteemed as among the best in the world of professional dance.
In some of Mr. Cunningham's works, even decisions about the ordering of sets, costumes and lighting were made by rolling dice or flipping a coin. This was the case in "Split Sides" (2003), a two-part production for which two sets of everything (lighting designs, costumes, etc.) were created and which came first was determined with great fanfare through dice-rolling in front of the audience just before the curtain went up.
Mr. Cunningham also brought cutting-edge technology into dance, in the 1960s pioneering the use of the camera to capture dance in multimedia collages. In the late 1980s he helped develop a software program, originally called LifeForms, that generates movements and step combinations. He began using it in the creation of his dances in 1991.
Of his use of the camera, Cunningham said at a 1996 festival of his films in Paris, "It interested me at once because it's something that is particular to our time." This line of thinking led him to use contemporary music almost exclusively, as well as to post Web casts of rehearsals from his studio. Beginning this year, his company's Web site featured "Mondays with Merce," including interviews with Mr. Cunningham.

Watch Erin Andrews Peephole Video Tape
ESPN Sports blogger and reporter Erin Andrews was the victim of a peeping tom when someone took a video of her in her hotel room through the peephole while she was unclothed or naked. Worst, someone uploaded it on a website until the lawyers of ESPN contacted the website owner to have it taken down. The website owner did comply and took the down however, people are still looking for the cached pages. The title of the most searched on Google Trends? “Erin Andrews Peephole Video”
Erin Andrews is undoubtedly an object of attention for many because she is beautiful. It shows that many people would want to see the video even though it is something as bad quality as a peephole video just to get a glimpse of the beautiful reporter.
The video appeared on Youtube for sometime but was blocked immediately. The cached pages remained and maybe by the time of this printing, even the cached pages may have already been removed.
Like anyone else, she has the right to privacy. Erin’s Lawyers though successful in blocking any website that would publish the video tried to prevent it from going viral as well. They have promised action against anyone who would publish it online and have vowed to take legal action against anyone involved in making the video.

Best -selling author E. Lynn Harris has died at 54
E. Lynn Harris, the best-selling Arkansas author known for contemporary stories about African-Americans, died today during a West Coast book tour. His personal assistant confirmed an unspecified health event this morning, but said she was awaiting word from the scene before providing specifics..
Arkansas Sports 360 provided the first formal report that Harris had died. The item did not cite a source, but Harris was close to the UA Athletic Department and had worked as coach and sponsor of the cheerleaders. Black Voices later confirmed the report, citing a spokesman for his publisher.
Word of the health event began making the rounds on Twitter earlier in the morning.
Born in Michigan, Harris grew up in Little Rock. He attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where he was the school's first black cheerleader. He continued to be a diehard Razorback fan. He has taught adjunct courses in the English department, most recently last fall.
His latest book, "Basketball Jones," is about the gay lover of an NBA star. Says the publicity blurb: "In Basketball Jones, E. Lynn Harris explores the consequences of loving someone who is forced to conform to the rules society demands its public heroes follow. Filled with nonstop twists and turns, it will keep readers riveted from the first page to the last." According to his website biography, Harris, 54, divides his time between Fayetteville and Atlanta.

Cash for clunkers - do your homework first
Kiplinger.com is advising anyone thinking about taking advantage of the program to do their homework first because the math may not match some of the sales pitches and public expectations vs. what qualifies.
Here's a nutshell explanation of how the program works:
To qualify for a rebate the clunker must be a 1984 or later model. It has to be registered and in use for at least one year. And -it must get 18 mpg or less in combined city and highway driving. The important phrase is combined mpg.
The clunker also has to be drivable, but there's apparently some fudge room on what drivable means.
If your vehicle meets the test you can get a voucher toward a new, more fuel-efficient vehicles as long as the new vehicle doesn't cost more than $45,000. If your intended new car gets at least 22 mpg, your voucher could be worth $3,500. But jackpot voucher is for vehicles that get 10 mpg better than the clunker. That voucher is worth $4,500.
CLICK HERE to see if your clunker meets the standards.
The intent of the program is two fold.
One is a green effort encouraging people to trade in gas-guzzling cars and trucks for new, more efficient ones. And then there's the economic stimulus aspect to boost consumption via vehicle sales during a deep recession.
The folks at National Public Radio have put together a pretty good recap of what's happening. Be sure to listen to the report if you want to hear some of the best and worst of Cash for Clunker's sales pitches.
And, as expected, the Better Business Bureau says there's also some information circulating about the program that is false and comes from con artists running Cash for Clunker scams.
There will probably be some good that comes out of this, but it's a good idea to do you homework first.
